Party games and rooms
What are Twentyroll rooms?
Private game rooms for 2 to 12 players. The host starts a room and shares a 6-character code or link, and everyone plays together in real time on their own phone or laptop. Every room includes four games: Imposter (a social deduction word game), Trivia Night, Word Mix (a word scramble race) and Odd One Out.
Do my friends need accounts to join a room?
No. Only the host needs a free account. Everyone else opens the link or enters the code, types a display name, and plays as a guest. Guests can join from any phone, tablet, or computer.
Are rooms free?
Joining a room is free and unlimited for everyone, guests included. A free account can host 3 party games a day. Premium ($2.99 a month) makes hosting unlimited and unlocks premium trivia categories for the whole room.
Does it work on Zoom or Teams?
Yes. Paste the room link in the call chat and everyone plays on their own phone or in a browser tab while you talk. Trivia can be host-paced, so you can read the questions and answers out loud. Nobody needs to share a screen.
Can two people play?
Yes. Trivia Night, Word Mix and Odd One Out all start at 2 players, on two different phones, wherever you both are. Imposter needs at least 3.
Is Twentyroll like Jackbox?
Same idea, different setup. One person starts a room and friends join with a code on their phones, but Twentyroll is free, runs in any browser, and needs no shared TV screen, because every player’s own phone shows the game.
What can the host control?
The game, the trivia category mix (up to 8 categories or a surprise mix), the number of rounds, a timer of 10 to 30 seconds or no timer, whether reveals advance automatically or wait for the host, and whether everyone’s answers are shown after each question.
Do room games count toward my rank or XP?
No. Room games are casual, so guests and ranked players can share a scoreboard without affecting anyone’s global position. Solo games and friend challenges are the ranked modes.
How long does a room stay open?
As long as people are in it. A room where everyone has disconnected closes after about 30 minutes (the host gets a notification), and any room closes after 12 hours. Hosts can also close a room themselves, and your open rooms are listed on the rooms page so you can rejoin with the same code.
The basics
What is Twentyroll?
Twentyroll is a free site for party games and trivia. Start a room and play Imposter, Trivia Night, Word Mix or Odd One Out with 2 to 12 friends on their own phones, or play on your own: Blitz survival trivia, 7-question solo rounds, untimed practice and friend challenges, with global leaderboards, XP and achievements.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Twentyroll runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets, and computers. It is a progressive web app, so you can optionally add it to your home screen and it behaves like a native app, but there is nothing to install from an app store.
Is Twentyroll free to play?
Yes. Joining a room is always free. A free account can host 3 party games a day and play solo games, practice, friend challenges and Blitz with a daily allowance. Premium removes every limit and unlocks premium categories.
What categories are available?
The library spans dozens of categories including science, history, geography, sports, movies, music, technology, art, literature, food, and general knowledge, and it keeps growing. You can browse the full list on the categories page.
Playing with friends
How do friend challenges work?
Pick a category, pick a friend, and send the challenge. Both players answer the exact same 7 questions with the same 10-second timer, the server scores both rounds, and you get a question-by-question comparison when both of you have finished.
Can I challenge friends asynchronously?
Yes. In an async challenge you play your round immediately and your friend has 24 hours to play the same questions whenever it suits them. If you are both online, you can play live in real time instead.
How do I add friends?
Send a friend request from the challenge screen or share your personal invite link. Once connected, you can challenge each other anytime and see your head-to-head history.
Can we play on different devices?
Yes. Because Twentyroll runs in the browser, an iPhone player can challenge an Android or desktop player without any compatibility issues.
Blitz: survival trivia
What is Blitz?
Blitz is the survival mode. Questions keep coming until you answer one wrong or the clock runs out, so there is no round length and no finish line. You start with 30 seconds, every correct answer adds time back, and your score is simply how many questions you survived. Your first runs will end somewhere in the teens; reaching 50 is a genuine achievement.
How does the Blitz clock work?
It is one running bank shared across the whole run rather than a timer per question, and it only counts down while a question is actually answerable, so you are never charged for loading or your connection. A correct answer adds time back and moves you straight to the next question with no reveal screen. A wrong answer ends the run instantly.
How much time does a correct answer add?
Six seconds for the first 10 questions, then one second less every 10 after that: +5s from question 11, +4s from 21, +3s from 31, +2s from 41, and +1s from question 51 onward. A fast start can bank time beyond the 30 seconds you begin with, up to 40, but the refunds keep shrinking, so the pressure only ever builds.
Do I need an account to play Blitz?
No. Blitz is the one mode you can walk into with no sign-up at all, including from a link a friend shared. An account is only needed to post your score to the leaderboard, and a run you finish as a guest is held until you create one.
How many Blitz runs do I get per day?
Free players get a daily allowance of Blitz runs. It is deliberately separate from the normal daily game limit, so a run that ends on question two does not cost you a whole game. Premium removes the limit completely: unlimited Blitz runs and unlimited games, every day.
How is the Blitz leaderboard ranked?
On questions survived in your single best run, with total elapsed time breaking ties in the faster player’s favour. Best run only, so a great night beats consistent grinding. There are three views: This Week, which resets every Monday so the board never gets locked up, All Time, and Friends.
Does Blitz get harder as I go?
The questions do not, the clock does. Every player meets the same pool with no per-player difficulty tuning, which is what makes the leaderboard mean something. Blitz draws on four broad categories (General Knowledge, World History, Science and Geography) because in a mode where one wrong answer ends everything, a narrow specialist question produces an unfair death.
Does Blitz affect my accuracy or win record?
No. A Blitz run is perfectly accurate right up to the single wrong answer that ends it, so counting it would distort your lifetime accuracy. Blitz keeps its own best-run and total-runs counters and its own achievement ladder, feeds your XP and your longest streak, and leaves accuracy, wins, perfect games and games played untouched.
How do I get on the Twentyroll homepage?
Top the Blitz board. The champion of the week and the champion of all time are both featured on the homepage with their avatar, the number of questions they survived, and a short message they write themselves. You do not have to set anything up to be featured: the spot goes to whoever is first, using your name and avatar automatically. Writing a message is optional, and you can write it before you win so it is ready when you get there.
How long do I stay on the homepage?
For as long as you hold first place. The weekly spot resets every Monday, so it changes hands often; the all-time spot only changes when somebody beats the record. You are told when you take first place and when you lose it.
Profiles and avatars
Can other players see my profile?
Yes. Every player has a public profile page showing their level, wins, accuracy, best streak, Blitz best and standing, unlocked achievements, and a short about line they write themselves. Tap any name on a leaderboard or in your friends list to open it. Your email address is never shown.
How do I change my avatar?
Open Profile and pick one from the avatar packs: illustrated people, doodles, or pixel art. Your avatar then appears everywhere you do, including the leaderboards. If you signed in with Google, your account photo is used until you choose an avatar.
What is the Champions avatar pack?
A gold-coloured set of avatars that unlocks only for players who have held first place on a Blitz board. Once you have held it, the pack stays yours even after somebody beats your run.
Will I be told when someone passes me on the leaderboard?
Yes, but sparingly. You are notified when a run overtakes you inside the top ten, when you lose first place, and when you take it. It is deliberately capped at a few messages a week so it stays useful rather than becoming noise.
Scoring and leaderboards
How are leaderboard rankings calculated?
Rankings are based on total points earned across scored games. Every question is worth 20 points: answer in the first second and a half and you keep all 20, after which the value slides down to 10 as the timer runs out. Wrong or out of time scores nothing. All scoring is calculated and verified on the server, and you can view global and regional rankings.
Can scores be cheated?
The game is designed to prevent it. Correct answers are never sent to your browser before you answer, all scoring happens server-side, and the 10-second timer leaves no time to look answers up.
What are XP, levels, and achievements?
Alongside leaderboard points, every game earns XP that raises your level over time. Achievements mark milestones like streak records, accuracy runs, and challenge wins. Daily streaks reward playing a little every day.
Learning on Twentyroll
What is practice mode?
Practice mode is an untimed solo round that shows a full explanation after every answer. It awards no points or XP, so there is zero pressure: it exists purely for learning a category before you compete in it.
Does Twentyroll actually help me learn?
The format is built on well-studied learning science: answering questions is retrieval practice, explanations give immediate feedback, and mixed categories add interleaving. On top of that, an adaptive engine keeps each round at your level and a Daily Review built on spaced repetition brings facts back right before you forget them. Does Twentyroll adjust to my level?
Yes. The game tracks your skill in each topic and serves questions tuned to it, aiming for the sweet spot where you are challenged but still getting most answers right. Question difficulty is measured from how everyone actually answers, not set by hand, so it keeps getting more accurate as more people play. A beginner and an expert can play the same category and each get a round that fits them.
What is Daily Review?
Daily Review is a short, untimed round that gathers the questions you are about to forget, pulled from every topic you have played, with an explanation after each answer. It is built on spaced repetition, so clearing it each day is the fastest way to turn what you learn into knowledge that lasts.
How does spaced repetition work on Twentyroll?
Every question you answer gets a personal review date. Answer it correctly and it returns later; miss it and it returns sooner, right before you would forget. You never schedule anything yourself: the game mixes due reviews into your rounds and gathers them in your Daily Review automatically.
What is the mastery score on my dashboard?
Because your skill is tracked per topic, your dashboard shows a mastery score for each category that rises as you get stronger and keep your reviews up, turning practice into visible progress. The adaptive engine, spaced repetition, and Daily Review are free for everyone; premium removes the daily limits and unlocks premium categories.
Do all questions have explanations?
Yes. In practice mode and Daily Review the explanation appears right after you answer. In timed rounds and challenges, explanations are shown in the post-game answer review.
Account and premium
What does premium include?
Premium removes every daily limit: host as many party games as you like, and play unlimited solo games and Blitz runs. It also unlocks premium categories, and a premium host unlocks them for everyone in the room. It costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. Payments are handled securely through Paddle, and you can cancel anytime from your subscription page.
What happens when I hit the free daily limit?
You can keep browsing categories and leaderboards, and your limit resets the next day. Solo games, Blitz runs and hosted party games have separate allowances, so running out of one does not stop the others, and joining someone else’s room never counts. Premium subscribers play without limits on any of them.
